Wednesday was my birthday. Jeannie planned on treating me to dinner at a nearby restaurant in Saint-Satur. Turns out, the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays. So it was a “birthday plus one day” dinner.
“Le Bord de Loire” is 4-kilometres from where Aleau is moored in Ménétréol-sous-Sancerre. From the street, it doesn’t look too exciting.
Inside is a different matter. Inside or outside, all the tables look out over the Loire.
That empty table would soon be ours.
After that long climb on foot to Sancerre, we decided to make the trek to Saint-Satur by e-bike. We had only used them once before – for a short ride to learn how to use them. My motor worked fine. Jeannie’s wouldn’t work at all. But we made it on time for our 7pm reservation.
Not having a working motor didn’t dampen Jeannie’s enthusiasm.
Since we have left the Burgundy region, we can no longer get Crémant de Bourgogne. We had to settle for Champagne. We made do. Jeannie started with Terrine Maison. (A terrine of chicken livers and stewed red onions.) I had Salad Chavignolaise. (With goat cheese and lardons. I gave Jeannie my goat cheese.)
For our plats, Jeannie chose Dos de Colin Poele saved Beurre Ciboulette (Sauted hake fish) while I had Piece de Boeuf avec Sauce Pinot Noir.
For dessert, Jeannie had the cheese plate. I had a delicious apricot tart. Needless to say, I once again hoovered dessert before thinking to take a photo. Maybe, I’ll learn.
Since the birthday dinner was one day late, I only have to wait 363 days for the next one.
