The next morning, it was off to Beffes for lunch. We chose “À la Bonne Époque,” the nicest restaurant in town. (And the only restaurant in town.) We entered by the side door, the one facing the towpath. First, we had to pass through security.
It was a charming place that had Jeannie looking very happy.
Or maybe it was the beer that had her smiling?
We looked at the Menu du Jour and wondered what the three courses – all for €14.90 – would be.
And then we realized it was Saturday. The Menu is only available weekdays. We would have to eat “à la carte.”
I chose “Petit Tartare de Saumon” as my entrée.
Jeannie passed on an entrée and went straight to the “plat” – but waited for me to finish my salmon.
She chose “Grand Carpaccio + Frites.” I stole a few. The fries were superb.
I had “Souris d’Agneau.” (My fries were just as good.)
It was another very hot day. Sorbet was in order for dessert.
While we had entered via the side door (after being approved by the geese), we had to see what the front entrance looked like.
After a delicious lunch, we were feeling lazy. Now that we had the work that needed to be done completed, there was no rush. We decided to stay at our mooring in Beffes. We were amazed that no one else was there. A lovely spot. Well kept. With electricity and water. And we had it entirely to ourselves. Aleau even looked a little bit lonely. A sign reminded us of our lunch – not that we needed anything to jog our memory.
