Nevers isn’t on the Canal Latéral à la Loire. Anyone wishing to see it has to leave the canal and take a three kilometre and two-lock detour along the dead-end Embranchement de Nevers. It ends in a large marina. Luckily for us, one that has no trouble accommodating large barges.
While it was nice to discover that we’d have no trouble mooring, it was the city of Nevers itself that delighted us. What a gem!
At first glance, and after reading Chapter 155, you might think this bridge across the Loire in Nevers is a Pont Canal. Nope. It’s for cars and trucks – not barges. How strange.
