Jeannie and I had a lovely New Year’s Eve. It was spent alone onboard Aleau. Jeannie prepared round toast with foie gras topped with fig…
…and then a delicious duck confit with yellow plums accompanied with butternut squash and sweet potato mash along with a crisp salad .
We sat on the couch, a lovely fire burning in the fireplace, and brought in the New Year with a bottle of Crémant de Bourgogne.
By now, you have learned that it is our favourite drink. It’s really Champagne – but since it’s made from local grapes, it’s not allowed to be called Champagne. Available in all supermarkets and stores from a large number of Bourgogne vineyards, it costs a fraction of “real” Champagne. And is just as delicious. Probably more so. (It’s available in Canada, too.)
On New Year’s Day, we went for a drive and discovered another charming town. This time, it was Menotey, 12 kilometres from Auxonne. Population 290. Once again, Peugey insisted on photobombing the shot.
Below, the Menotey school.
